The Prayer of Jesus
"My prayer is not for the apostles alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me."
John 17:20-21The Call by St. Paul:
"Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
There is one body and one Spirit--just as you were called to one hope when you were called-- one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all."
Together:
- We seek the unity which is both the will of God and the gift of God;
- We celebrate the unity which is in the heart of God;
- We recognise that our division are an offence to God;
- We share the pain of Christ and of the world which our divisions cause;
- We proclaim one Spirit, one Lord, one Father, one God;
- We are all part of one Body of Christ;
- We profess one Faith, one Hope;
- We will make every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace;
- We offer ourselves to God, so that the world may believe.
The Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
