Groupe des Dombes
Named after the area to the north-east of Lyon where they meet, the "Groupe des Dombes" has gathered together each year since 1937 around forty French Catholics and Protestants (Reformed and Lutheran) - both theologians and those with pastoral responsibility.
In an atmosphere of prayer and community life, the group members try to tackle the various theological questions which still separate the Catholic Church and the Churches of the Reformation.
While remaining a private group, its role is to witness to, to call for and to urge Church Unity. Its work has no value except that which the Churches wish to give to it.
The group meets for a week in September. For many years, it met at the Abbey of the Dombes and sometimes at Taizé. Since 1998, the meetings have been held at the Abbey of Pradines, near to Roanne.
The "Groupe des Dombes" has published:
- Towards one eucharistic faith? (1971)
- For the reconciliation of ministries (1972)
- The Episcopal ministry (1976)
- The Holy Spirit, the Church and the Sacraments (1979)
- The ministry of communion in the universal Church (1985)
